Refurbishment Projects and Underfloor Heating

Retro-fitting

We often get asked whether underfloor heating can be installed in Victorian and older properties, the answer is yes!

The key to ensuring that your new underfloor heating system is suitable for your refurbishment project is to consider the heat loss of your property and the heat output of the system being installed. Calda’s underfloor heating design team can produce these figures for you.

Some other questions to ask yourself is: What type of flooring finish are you planning to put on top:

Tiled flooring is particularly good at transferring heat, so is ideal for use with underfloor heating systems in older properties as it will enhance the heat output of the system.

Engineered wooden flooring designed for use with underfloor heating systems is also suitable and will work in a Victorian property.

Carpets can be used, but requires some more planning to work in older properties. Ensure you are buying a lower tog carpet, suitable for underfloor heating. We would also recommend 5MM layer of self-levelling compound, as this will significantly increase the heat output of the underfloor heating system. Get in touch with us for further advice around this issue. Also ensure you are using a system that generates a high heat output.

Our Calda Pro system is ideal for underfloor heating refurbishment projects in Victorian properties. You can view system information here: https://www.calda.co.uk/calda-pro
